Albanian-English cake glossary
Ordering a cake in Kosovo comes with its own vocabulary. Here are the words we and our customers use most, in Albanian and English, so nothing gets lost when you describe the cake you want.
Torte me porosi
Custom cakeA cake designed and made to order for a specific occasion, rather than chosen from a fixed menu.
Fondan
FondantA smooth, roll-out sugar paste used to cover a cake for a clean, sculpted finish.
Krem gjalpi
ButtercreamA soft whipped frosting made with butter, giving a softer look and a lighter taste than fondant.
Kat / Kate
Tier / TiersA stacked level of a cake. Multi-tier cakes are used for weddings and larger celebrations.
Mbushje
FillingThe cream, fruit or ganache between the cake layers. Each tier can have a different filling.
Dasma
WeddingThe wedding. Wedding cakes (torte dasme) are usually tiered and sized to the guest count.
Fejesa
EngagementThe engagement celebration. Engagement cakes (torte fejese) are one of our most common orders.
Diplomim
GraduationA school or university graduation, a popular occasion for a celebration cake.
Porcione / Racione
ServingsThe number of portions a cake yields. See our cake sizes and servings guide for typical counts.
Kapkejk
CupcakeIndividual small cakes, often served alongside or instead of a tiered cake.
Tavolina e ëmbëlsirave
Dessert tableA spread of cupcakes, cake pops and mini-desserts arranged alongside the main cake.
Kaparë
DepositThe advance payment that secures your order and reserves your date in our calendar.
Faturë
InvoiceA bill or receipt, available for corporate and company orders.
