Milestone birthdays tend to go one of two ways. Either the number itself becomes the cake, as with a number cream tart cut to shape and piped with cream, roses and macarons, or the number is a small element on an otherwise restrained design. Both scale to any age, so a ten works exactly as a thirty or a fifty does.
Colour is where most of the decision sits. Vintage piping in white or cream reads soft and photographs gently, while navy, black and gold read as more adult and hold up under evening lighting. Any design shown here can move between those palettes without changing the structure of the cake.
